Hadfield Cell Group

We are a group of 15 teenagers (and nearly-teenagers smiley face) who meet weekly for “fun, food and fellowship.” Every Friday evening from 8.30-10.30 we squash together in a living room and discuss issues that we think are important.

Leadership

The group is run by the youth, with the exception of one youth leader (with the Pais Project) who helps out with Mini-Cell, which is a division of Cell Group for the nearly-teenagers who are interested in getting to know God a bit better.

Fellowship

Armour of God

On an average night we manage to squeeze in prayer, a silly (and usually messy) game, a video clip, lots of discussion, role-play or craft activities and a challenge for the coming week. However our discussions are often pretty serious and lengthy so we quickly developed our own website with a forum to carry on the discussion topics after the session: www.wbw.org.uk. The site celebrated its 2nd anniversary recently and has over 60 members!

Food

We have a food rota, which everyone who wants is added to, and we have a variety of interesting themed food every week. The challenge for the evening is to guess the theme…and this is sometimes rather impossible! We’ve had seasonal themes, like toffee apples round bonfire night, we’ve had coloured themes, like rainbow food or red food, we’ve had foreign themes like French or Asian food, and we’ve had obscure themes like round food, under-the-sea food (and we don’t mean fish, we mean chocolate sea-shells and sandcastle-shaped cakes), fair-trade food or pirate food involving (fake) grog and chicken drumsticks.

We also have a Cell Group social event every half term. The last event held was a Kiddie Day! We dressed up as kids, played twister, charades, tangle and wink murder, watched “The Page Master”, had a Bible study on a Back to Basics theme (with pass the parcel!) and generally just had a laugh. In the past we’ve done a food crawl (like a pub crawl but with starters, mains and desert instead of alcohol and a Bible study with each course) a fancy dress Lord of the Rings sleepover with a Lord of the Rings based Bible study (and yes, we did watch all three films!), a Crazy Olympics day and then some more normal things like bowling and Pizza Hut…

In the Easter holidays 2007 we went on an adventure with 10 Cell Groupers. The adventure was a two-night camping trip in a field opposite a Cell Grouper’s grandparents near Wigan. The themes were knights and getting closer to God so our activities included a jousting contest, an obstacle course, a crazy quiz, eight Bible studies, a night-time scavenger hunt, a crazy filming challenge, a hike with a picnic, worship and a craft session making shields and lances (out of cardboard!) We had a campfire, cooked all our own meals and no one showered for three days — it was awesome!

Cell Group News

Moving House

We are hoping to move our meeting into Hadfield Church’s cellar now that it’s been done up. 15 giddy Christian teenagers can be a bit of a squeeze when they’re put together in a living room and given sugar…we make a lot of noise too.

The Cell Group Adventure II

This summer last years Cell Group leaders are teaming up with this years leaders to plan a second, bigger, better, twice-as-long, more exciting and much more messy Cell Group Adventure. We’re staying for four nights in Linnet Clough, a scout campsite in Marple. Unfortunately, we are unable to release any information on themes yet as it is all top secret, but it will be incredible. There’ll be archery and rock-climbing, Bible studies and special guests, tents and mud and campfires…and this year there’ll be showers! Get ready folks, it’s the Cell Group Adventure Mark Two!
